Hope

As quoted by physician and writer Sherwin Nuland in this TED Talk, Czech playwright and former president of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel, has said that "hope is not the expectation that things will come out exactly right, but the expectation that they will make sense regardless how they come out."

So too, the brain.

Taking a painterly approach to the world, it doesn't render a pixel-perfect image for our disposal, but using incomprehensible shards of light, makes meaning.
