Monday, I met with Jeffrey Jamner at the Kentucky Center, who provided me with an update and quick tutorial on the arts and healing. Since March, the Kentucky Center has been connecting artists to individuals of all ages who need of brief respite from their troubles, whether they be physical or emotional. While Jeff was careful to say that the artists he and the Kentucky Center had worked with were focused on art creation rather than a specific outcome that an art therapist might seek, as Thomas Trudgeon explained in this audio, the outcomes can nonetheless be moving in a couple of ways.
The work of the Mark Morris Dance Group with the Parkinson's patients Thomas describes also reminded me of a stirring New York Times article articulating how dance provided one man with movement that physical therapy had failed to restore.
